Winner of the Young Ambassador 2014

The 2014 Poll Dorset Young Ambassador competition was held at Bendigo during the Australasian Dorset Championships.

Three finalists from across Australia were selected from region entries.

  • Katie McCartney of Yentrac PD Stud, Tatura.
  • Rosie Cleave, of Tocumwal NSW.
  • Joe Scott of Valley Vista Park PD Stud, Coolac NSW. (withdrawn due to last minute commitments)

Finalists participated in Poll Dorset judging and an interview, speaking about the lamb industry and the role of the Poll Dorset breed.

Both finalists were commended for their knowledge and skills, with Rosie Cleave named as the winner.

Rosie is a Year 12 student at Finley High School, and has shown a strong interest in Poll Dorset sheep and the lamb industry. Her family runs a commercial lamb operation, using Poll Dorsets as the terminal sire.

Her future hope is to one day have her own farm and either breed or use Poll Dorsets as sires in a prime lamb enterprise. Her previous experience includes associate judge at the ADC 2012, junior handling and judging competitions, being nominated for judge at local shows.

The Young Ambassador winner receives return flights to NZ where they are given a tour of Poll Dorset studs and further experience in the NZ lamb industry.
