It’s the biggest lamb gathering in the Southern Hemisphere and Poll Dorsets were part of the huge gathering for LambEx in Adelaide, South Australia.
Emi Hughes from Bernalta Poll Dorsets at Sampson Flat, South Australia, helped to organise the Poll Dorset stand at the event and said it had been a more than worthwhile exercise.
“We showcased a large backdrop featuring a Poll Dorset ram, alongside brochures highlighting the breed’s benefits for lamb producers,” Ms Hughes said.
“Visitors could also take home stickers, stubby holders and pens and thanks must go to Isabelle Roberts for supplying additional promotional material and brochure holders.”
Ms Hughes said there had been a steady stream of visitors throughout the event, which was helped by the site’s location which was right beside the main exhibition hall stage.
“It was great to catch up with Poll Dorset breeders from across Australia and overseas, as well as commercial producers using Poll Dorset genetics in their operations,” Ms Hughes said.
“The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many people sharing their experiences and highlighting the value Poll Dorsets bring to their enterprises.”
Ms Hughes said having a strong presence at events like LambEx reinforced the Poll Dorset’s position as a premier terminal sire breed.
“LambEx brings together every part of the sheep industry, from producers to researchers, processors and government representatives,” she said.
“It’s a unique opportunity to showcase the breed to this audience, strengthen relationships and engage in meaningful discussions in person.”
Ms Hughes, who is vice-president of the Australian Poll Dorset Association Adelaide region and Lachlan Grossman, from Koonawarra Poll Dorset Stud, Angaston, South Australia, who is president of the Adelaide region, manned the stand and said it was a rewarding experience.
“As President and Vice President of the Adelaide Region of the APDA, we’re grateful for the opportunity to have represented the breed at LambEx,” Ms Hughes said.
“Young breeders in these roles reflect the strong culture of mentorship and further support within the Poll Dorset community.”
Ms Hughes said brochures were a great conversation starter, while the stickers, stubby holders and pens were popular with visitors and helped promote the Poll Dorset breed.
She said she would thoroughly recommend that Poll Dorsets are part of events like this.
“LambEx is a busy three-day event, balancing time on the exhibition stand with attending plenary sessions and networking opportunities,” she said.
“However, the connections made, knowledge gained and exposure for the Poll Dorset breed make it a worthwhile event, and one we’d recommend attending in the future.”
